I really don't want the factions to become the same, but that's not necessarily what would happen- it depends on how it was implemented. Give them access to units from another race that covers their weaknesses and everything ends up playing exactly the same. Chaos and Norsca only have few ranged units but some real melee monsters. Skaven and VCoast only have weak frontlines because their focus is ranged combat. There are gaps in what they have access to and these gaps help in forming a playstyle.
